Netizens: The Evolution Continues - Building Web3 Social Networks and Redefining Digital Identity
Since my last Substack article about Netizens, I've become an active community member, immersing myself in the project and its vision. As I delve deeper into this fascinating world, to realize that my perspective might be somewhat biased due to my close involvement. However, I believe this bias gives me a unique insight into the project's evolution, challenges, and grand vision. I embarked on an exciting journey in my previous article, exploring the groundbreaking project and its potential to revolutionize online education by leveraging Web3 technologies. I delved into the project's unique approach to online learning, the power of NFTs, and the focus on problem-based learning. Today, I continue this journey, diving deeper into the project's evolution, challenges, and grand vision.
Netizens, as I've learned, is not just an online education platform. It's a vision of a future where online communities are not merely platforms for interaction but are digital societies with their economies, governance structures, and cultures. This vision is brought to life through the project's first product, Web3me, a tool that allows users to document their activities on the blockchain, creating a digital portfolio of their crypto activities.
As one of the privileged few who had early access to test Web3me, I can attest to its innovative approach in combining on-chain data with off-chain data and the NFT potential. It's a breakthrough that not only enhances the user experience but also adds a new dimension to the concept of digital identity. The seamless integration of these elements in Web3me is a testament to the innovative spirit of Netizens.
Christie, one of the co-founders of Netizens, recently shared some thoughts in a tweet about the project's launch and the community's growth. She said,
"Despite the bearish market conditions, we decided to launch our NFT collection, focusing on what truly matters - the community. We believe there's no perfect moment to launch, and the market's unpredictability only reinforces our focus on community building."
"Netizens isn't your average, artificially hyped project. It's a long-term endeavor built on hard work, consistency, and trust. We believe that the mint of an NFT project shouldn't be its most hyped event, as that's not sustainable. Instead, we're focused on exceeding expectations and building something meaningful and enduring."
The team also believes in the fun aspect of NFTs. Christie added,
"We've created a community of art collectors, and we see the art and the experience of hunting down rarity scores as a fun part of the NFT culture. We've built our first product, Web3me, before the mint, changing the norm and showing our commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem."
The team's motto, "Make NFTs fun again," started as a movement when faith in NFTs was at an all-time low. Christie explained,
"It's not just about Netizens; it's about Ethereum and all the good things happening in the NFT space. It's open to interpretation, which is why so many people have resonated with and adopted the phrase."
However, the journey of Netizens has not been without challenges. The founders faced challenges such as assembling a team, building trust among community members, and managing the unpredictable crypto market. However, they persevered and remained committed to their vision. The success of Netizens isn't just judged by its product or how big its community is, but also by the positive effect it has on its members. The euphoria of minting Netizen NFTs (by the way, my actual PFP comes from this collection), the thrill of participating in the community's puzzles and games, and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a like-minded community are all part of the Netizens experience.
However, the funders are not just sitting back and relaxing. They have big plans for the future – they want to create a social network that combines social media, smart contracts, and online education. This platform would cater to a specific market need and could generate a network effect that could push Netizens to even greater success.
The story of Netizens is a testament to the power of community, the potential of blockchain technology, and the transformative nature of digital identities. It's a story of resilience, innovation, and a vision for a future where online communities are not just platforms for interaction but are digital societies with thrown economies, governance structures, and cultures.
As I look to the future, the story of Netizens serves as a reminder of the transformative power of blockchain technology and the potential of digital art. It's a call to action for all of us to embrace the possibilities of Web3 and to be part of the digital revolution; it is not the end but just the beginning for Netizens.
